Researchers from the Politecnico di Milano, Italy, presented a "High-efficiency & Smart Lighting Report", in which the report described such a scenario: By 2020, the Italian LED and smart lighting market is expected to grow at a double-digit rate. This means that in 2020, in addition to the smart lighting market worth 140 million euros, the Italian LED market will surely grow from 900 million euros in 2015 and exceed 1.2 billion euros.
Researchers from the Politecnico di Milano and the trade association jointly research the LED communication and smart lighting solutions in residential, industrial and public lighting. Studies have shown that, despite the great potential for future development of LED technology, the current LED technology still has low penetration. The report also pointed out that by 2020, LED and intelligent control systems will increase from 8% to 42%.
The current market conditions in Italy are: Stores (third-party markets) are characterized by low penetration of LEDs and high penetration of smart lighting solutions. In the office, LED and smart lighting solutions are very popular. The difference is that in industry, the growth rate of the two is very low. Among them, the residential sector accounts for the largest share, mainly due to the rapid expansion of LED lights in households.
Let's take a closer look at the Italian lighting market in 2020. The number of LED products for home lighting in Italy will reach 400 million. Compared with 2015, the industrial lighting market has increased by 80%, and the installation ratio of LED products accounts for 20% of the Italian manufacturing plants. In terms of public lighting, the number of LED street lights in 2020 can reach 3.5 million, saving 1TWh of electricity per year (accounting for 5% of total electricity consumption).
Smart lighting in offices is more popular
In the office, the market for LED and smart lighting is very broad. They are not only more efficient but also smarter. The lighting system includes intelligent control and management equipment, with a series of more complete sensors and smart city service infrastructure.
The report pointed out that in 2020, there will be more than 680,000 households in Italy involved in smart lighting products (almost 2.7% of the total households). Compared with the 180,000 households in 2015, there is a significant increase (0.7% of the total households). In the industrial sector, 20,000 small companies, 770 medium-sized companies, and 150 large-scale companies will implement smart technology in 2020, which will add up to less than 20% of the total number of companies. It is expected to increase the penetration of smart lighting in commerce and office. In terms of public lighting, the proportion of street lights is expected to increase from 3% in 2015 to 8%.
